Alex & Lily

This wedding was extra special for me because I’ve known Alex and Lily for a few years now. Alex works at Costco with my husband—that’s how we first met and became friends. So when they asked me to photograph their wedding, it felt like such a full-circle moment.

A couple years ago, I also had the chance to do their engagement photos in Glacier National Park during the winter. It was cold, snowy, and absolutely beautiful—such a fun contrast to their summer wedding day. Getting to photograph both milestones made everything feel even more meaningful.

Their wedding day in Montana came with a little bit of everything—sunshine, clouds, and even a bit of rain. The weather was unpredictable, but no one let it get in the way. Everyone stayed in great spirits, and we made the most of it. Honestly, the rain added a little charm to the day and gave us some fun, candid moments.

Alex and Lily were so easygoing and full of joy. You could feel how much love and support surrounded them from their friends and family. From the ceremony to the dance floor, it was a day full of laughter, happy tears, and genuine moments.

I’m so grateful I got to be part of their story—not just as a photographer, but as a friend. Alex and Lily, thank you for trusting me to capture both your engagement and your wedding. It’s been such a joy to watch your journey and document these memories for you.

Tips for Planning a Montana Wedding in the Summer

1. Prepare for All Kinds of Weather

Montana summers are beautiful, but the weather can change quickly—sunshine, wind, and even a surprise rain shower can all happen in one day. Have a backup plan for outdoor ceremonies and consider renting a tent or having an indoor option just in case.

2. Embrace the Long Days

One of the best things about summer in Montana is the long daylight hours. Golden hour (the best time for dreamy photos) can stretch late into the evening, so plan your ceremony and photo timeline to take advantage of that soft, glowing light.

3. Dress for Comfort

It can get warm during the day, especially in July and August, but mornings and evenings can still be cool—especially in the mountains. Let your guests know to bring layers, and consider breathable fabrics for your wedding attire.

4. Book Early

Montana is a popular summer destination, especially for weddings and outdoor events. Venues, vendors, and accommodations can book up fast, so try to secure your key details as early as possible.

5. Think About Accessibility

If you’re getting married in a more remote or scenic location (like Glacier National Park or a mountain lodge), make sure your guests know what to expect. Provide clear directions, parking info, and any tips for navigating the area.

6. Don’t Forget the Bug Spray

If your wedding is outdoors, especially near water or in the woods, bring bug spray or offer it to guests. It’s a small detail that can make a big difference in comfort.

7. Enjoy the Scenery

You chose Montana for a reason—take time to soak it in! Whether it’s a quiet moment before the ceremony or a photo session in the mountains, make space in your day to enjoy the beauty around you.
